SISY: Cultivating Soft Skills for Youth with Learning Differences through Sports

SISY is a European youth project built around a simple idea: sport can be a powerful way to learn life skills. The project focuses on young people aged 15-24 with learning differences, and on the youth workers and organisations that support them. SISY brings partners from Spain, Cyprus, Italy, Greece, and Austria together to create practical tools, training, and community activities that help young people strengthen soft skills through inclusive sport settings.

Many young people with learning differences face extra barriers when it comes to social participation and entering the world of work. SISY responds by combining non-formal learning with sports-based experiences, because sports naturally create moments where communication, teamwork, leadership, resilience, and emotional intelligence can be practiced in real time.

SISY’s goals are practical and people-centered: improve youth work practices by integrating sports into non-formal learning, strengthen employability by building job-relevant soft skills, and create a pan-European Community of Practice so youth workers can learn from each other and share approaches that work.

Across the project’s 24 months (from February 2025 to January 2027), SISY will develop and test a set of connected activities: a digital learning hub for youth workers, training and certification pathways, inclusive sports tournaments, storytelling videos, and community dialogues and social gatherings designed to strengthen participation and belonging.

SISY is working toward a long-term impact where youth workers feel more confident using sports as a learning tool, and young people feel more confident using their soft skills in everyday life, in their communities, and when planning their next steps in education or work.

Follow SISY to see how sport can become a learning space where everyone has a role, a voice, and a chance to grow.
